Article: Hermès Sac Bijou Birkin

Hermès Sac Bijou Birkin

Even among the prestigious Hermès Birkins, there exists an item so rare and so extraordinary that it feels more like a piece of fine jewelry than an accessory. The Hermès Sac Bijou Birkin is a miniature model crafted entirely from white gold and encrusted with diamonds.

Designed by Pierre Hardy for the Hermès’ Haute Bijouterie collection, it was first revealed in 2012.  Each piece took over two years to complete; the result of Hermès’ most meticulous craftsmanship and Pierre Hardy’s visionary design. Less than five Sac Bijou Birkins have been made, making them one of the rarest and most coveted Hermès creations to exist.

The Sac Bijou Birkin is cast in solid 18-carat white gold, its surface designed to mimic the texture of crocodile skin. It is set with over 3,000 diamonds and a caratage that most would struggle to comprehend. While it opens like a real handbag and features functioning hardware, it is small enough to fit in the palm of your hand. With the measurements of 12cm x 10cm (4.7” x 3.8”)

It is not simply a fashion item but a collectible, a museum-worthy objet d’art. Most collectors have only admired this piece in photographs or exhibitions. Very few have had the opportunity to see one, let alone own one.
